The Expo is a very large family event. A family event of this size requires a structured environment for the safety of all participants. In order to run this event successfully we have created Rules of Conduct that every attendee will be expected to abide by during their time with us. Rules of Conduct are important because it helps children feel secure when they know what is expected of them and of others. Rules of Conduct will be displayed in all workshop areas at the Expo.
1) Children should not be left unattended. The FRC cannot be held responsible for the welfare of children left unsupervised. Children under age 10 must be attended by a parent or other responsible adult caregiver (age 18 or over) at all times while at the Expo. Children age 10 and up can attend workshops independently so long as parents are regularly monitoring their behaviour and whereabouts. All workshops can accommodate student and adult program participants.
2) Parents or Adult caregivers are expected to regularly monitor the behavior, and know the whereabouts of their own children at all times. Neither the FRC staff, Volunteer Room Monitors, Educators, Exhibitors or Vendors are responsible for the welfare of a student or supervising student behavior.
3) Behavior that interferes with the comfort of others enjoying the Expo will not be tolerated. (Examples are inappropriate language: swearing, yelling, fighting or rough-housing, hitting or threatening behaviour - by adults or children.)
4) Please plan to check-in for workshops 10 minutes before the hour. All workshop participant names will be on a workshop check-in list and verified by Room Monitors. Each student should carry with them, their workshop confirmation letter, incase there is a question about registration for a particular workshop or presentation. The name badges (provided for each student) make a nice pouch to carry this important document.
5) Workshop doors will close promptly on the hour and late arrivals cannot be accommodated after quarter past the hour. If you miss your workshop check-in you might take advantage of the time and visit the exhibit hall or vendor booths. There are no refunds for missed workshops.
6) Students may not switch their workshop schedule on-site. All workshops will require pre-registration and we cannot accommodate changes on the day of the event.
7) During all workshops and presentations we must strictly enforce a rule of NO TALKING WHILE THE EDUCATOR IS TALKING. We know this can be difficult but please understand that each classroom area is only divided by heavy velvet floor to ceiling drapery. It is imperative that the educators not have to talk over parents and students, so as not to disturb the educator in the adjoining room. Parents, please monitor your children and please step outside the classroom if you need to discuss something with another parent or have an unhappy, nonparticipating sibling in the workshop area.
8) After every workshop and during lunch please help clean up go smoothly and quickly by taking care of your own trash. There will be waste receptacles in every classroom and in the hallways of the conference center.
9) If you need to report a violation of the Rules of Conduct please see an FRC staff member or a Room Monitor.
10) If for any reason an attendee (parent or child) is not observing the Rules of Conduct, an FRC staff member or a Volunteer Room Monitor may remind then of the Rules of Conduct. If a second reminder is needed persons may be asked to leave the presentation or workshop. Repeated misconduct will result in persons being asked to leave the Expo entirely. There are no refunds if asked to leave due to misconduct.
